Review: DOSPrinter is a lightweight tool that allows you to print documents from the command line. It allows you to send TXT, RPT and PRN files to the printer directly from the console, without using other programs. The program can be used with any DOS application in order to print a file by entering a single line of code. For repeated printing tasks you can create batch files with multiple command line arguments to minimize the time. You are allowed to use wildcard characters which enable you to print multiple files with just one click. The command line arguments enable you to change the page size and to stretch the letters in order to format the document. The formatting features are basic but enable you to use a specified font and to modify the page orientation of the printout. You can use an image watermark to personalize your document by entering the file location and the coordinates on the page. Unfortunately, you cannot format the image in order to avoid being covered by text. You need to play around with the image size, its coordinates and the document margins until you get the desired result. However, the app enables you to preview the document before sending it to a hardware printer by creating a PDF document. Thus, you can review the text and make the required changes before printing the final version. This tool can do more than send a file to a printer. By using command line arguments you can create a RTF file that is automatically sent to the WordPad application. You can also send the output file to an email address by using an SMTP mail server. Overall, this tiny piece of software can be used successfully to handle document printing for DOS applications or by using batch files. If you are not accustomed with the command line interface, the program also provides you with a graphical interface that is able to configure the output format. |
